HK's millionth company
registered
Hong Kong, Oct 15 - Hong Kong
Companies Registry announced today that the Asian Society for Traumatic Stress
Studies Limited registered in Oct became the millionth local company
incorporated in Hong Kong. The Companies Registry held a small celebration and
presented the "certificate of incorporation" to the company.
Registrar of Companies Gordon Jones indicated that the
first company in Hong Kong was incorporated 140 years ago in 1865. Since then,
Hong Kong has developed into a major international business and financial
centre, and it was only 11 years ago when the 500,000th company was
incorporated.
Mr. Jones said that to meet the standards expected of Hong
Kong as one of the world's major business and financial centers, the Registry
pledges to complete registration of a local company with a capital stock in
six working days.
Statistics from the Registry show that in the first three
quarters of 2005, 55,694 local companies were incorporated, up 15.9% year on
year. By the end of Sep. 2005, local companies on the register totaled
543,519.
Analysis manifests that convenient and highly efficient
company registry is a critical link of Hong Kong's business-oriented financial
services foundation.
